Admittedly, although major crimes are not a serious problem in Vietnam, petty ones do occur regularly, and shoplifting is not an exception. Shop owners may easily have their goods stolen if they do not install security cameras in their stores. Besides, some Vietnamese people living abroad still commit such minor crimes, which damages the reputation of our country. I think those offenders should be sent to prison for several months so that they can learn good behaviour.

1. Do you think that young criminals should be sent to prison for serious crimes?

I don’t think so. The most important reason is that young offenders being put into prison might be tempted to go back to their old ways after they are set free. You know, I simply think that they can’t be rehabilitated in this way. Instead, the government ought to organize some programs to educate young criminals and turn them into law-abiding citizens. Those criminals also have to participate in community service to make up for their crimes.

2. What qualities should a police officer have?

I guess the very first one is that they have to say no to any kind of bribes. I mean, they must not get involved in any corruption. Otherwise, people will lose trust in them. Apart from that, physical fitness is another essential quality of policemen because without it, they can’t chase after or fight with criminals. Last but not least, police officers should also be able to remain calm in dangerous situations so that they can make wise decisions.
