1. How well do you know the capital city of your country?
Speaking Answer:
To be honest, since I was born and raised way further in the south of Vietnam, I don’t know Hanoi like the back of my hand. However, I’ve heard so much about its rich culture and the wide variety of street food the city has to offer. It’s actually on my bucket list to set foot there sometime later this year.
- know it like the back of my hand (idiom) /nəʊ ˈsʌmθɪŋ ɪnˈsaɪd aʊt/ (idiom): biết về nó rất rõ (như nắm trong lòng bàn tay)
- have to offer (phrase) /hæv tə ˈɔfər/: Có thể cung cấp/mang lại
2. Do you think cities are exciting places to live?
Speaking Answer:
Without a doubt, yes. The main reason is that urban areas offer a diverse range of recreational activities. Take Ho Chi Minh City as an example, where you can find modern complexes that incorporate unconventional novelties like indoor ice-skating or rock climbing. [Alternative/Contrast] These facilities are substantially costly to set up, so they are rarely found in rural areas.
- incorporate /ɪnˈkɔːrpəreɪt/ (v): đưa vào
- unconventional novelties /ˌʌnkənˈvɛnʃənəl ˈnɑvəltiz / (collocation): những trải nghiệm mới lạ, độc đáo
- cost substantially /kɔːst səbˈstænʃəli/ (verb phrase): tốn kém đáng kể
3. Why do some people dislike living in a city?
Speaking Answer:
I suppose the fast-paced lifestyle is the primary culprit. With the pressure of a typical 9-to-5 job, people often have to rush their meals and constantly deal with skyrocketing living expenses. In fact, some of my friends are completely fed up with their dead-end jobs which barely cover the basic costs of surviving in a metropolis.
- Skyrocketing living expenses /ˈskaɪˌrɑːkətɪŋ ˈlɪvɪŋ ɪkˈspɛnsɪz/ (collocation): chi phí sinh hoạt tăng phi mã
- fed up /ˌfed ˈʌp/ (adj): quá chán nản
- metropolis /məˈtrɑːpəlɪs/ (n): thành phố sầm uất
4. If you could visit any city in the world, where would you go?
Speaking Answer:
If I were given the chance, I would head straight to Tokyo. I’m a huge fan of Japanese pop culture, especially anime and manga. My ultimate dream is to visit the famous Akihabara district to purchase authentic merchandise and build a huge collection of my favorite shows. That’s why I’m saving up for this trip.
- authentic merchandise /əˈθɛn.tɪk ˈmɝː.tʃən.daɪs/ (collocation): đồ lưu niệm/hàng chính hãng
