IELTS Speaking Sample Part 1 – Test 4 Cambridge 21: Bread

1. When do you usually eat bread?

Speaking Answer:

I usually eat bread for breakfast, especially on busy weekdays when I don’t have much time to cook. Instead of skipping breakfast, I’ll often grab something quick like a slice of wholemeal bread with peanut butter because it’s both filling and convenient. Although I don’t eat it every day, it’s definitely my go-to option whenever I’m in a hurry.

2. How important is bread in your culture?

Speaking Answer:

I’d say bread plays a pivotal role in Vietnamese food culture, although rice is still the main staple food. The most famous example is definitely Vietnamese “bánh mì”, which combines a crispy baguette with different fillings like grilled meat and fresh herbs. [Detail] It’s affordable and widely available, making it the ultimate street food that everyone loves.

3. Have you tried any kinds of bread from other countries?

Speaking Answer:

Yes, absolutely. I’ve tried French baguettes, croissants, and Japanese milk bread. My absolute favorite is the Japanese milk bread because it’s incredibly soft and fluffy and slightly sweet. Whenever I travel, I always make it a point to try the local specialities because it’s a great way to experience a country’s food culture.

4. Would you be interested in learning how to make bread?

Speaking Answer:

Without a doubt. I think baking bread from scratch would be both enjoyable and practical. It would be so satisfying to enjoy freshly baked bread right out of the oven, and I could choose healthier ingredients instead of relying on store-bought products. Even though the process seems quite time-consuming, I’d love to give it a try someday.
