Các bài mẫu IELTS Speaking News and Media thường gặp

IELTS Speaking Media Topic

Part 1:

1. Where do you usually get the news from?

Given the rapid evolution of mass media, I feel that people, particularly young ones, get their information from either Facebook or the television. With most aspects of life, such as politics, entertainment, and society, we keep ourselves up to date with only news that are relevant to ourselves and filter those that aren’t. This applies to news platforms too since we don’t use that older generations use.

  • mass media (n): truyền thông đại chúng
  • keep someone up to date (idm): cập nhật cho ai những thông tin mới nhất
  • filter (v): lọc

2. Do you prefer to read local news or International news?

International news is something I’m much more interested in. I have a greater interest in understanding the global situation as a whole rather than just learning of our local news.

  • International news (n): tin tức quốc tế
  • local news (n) : Tin tức địa phương

3. Do many people today read newspapers?

Newspapers seem to be a dying media. With the advent of the Internet and online newspapers, people quickly realized the convenience and the speed of them over traditional paper newspapers. They do still exist, but rarely do I see people holding a piece of newspaper in public.

  • dying (adj): sắp chết (nghĩa bóng: đang dần không còn phổ biến)
  • the advent of sth (n): sự ra mắt, xuất hiện của cái gì

Part 2:

Describe a piece of local news about which people were very excited

You should say:

  • what it was about
  • when you heard/ read about it
  • what the story was
  • and explain why it was interesting to you.

Let me talk about one such local news that I came across last week, which has been stirring the atmosphere of my neighborhood.

I live in a pretty crowded urban area right in the middle of the nation’s capital. This area receives quite a lot of attention, from both the people and the government, as they see its value as both a cultural and tourist attraction. As such, it has quite a few contemporary shops and fancy restaurants. But strangely enough, it has flown under the radar and avoided major constructions for quite a long time now. At least until last month, when the city council issued an announcement of a plan to build a new museum right on the outskirt of the neighborhood. It was designated to be the Museum of Technological Development, and the cost for the construction of which is estimated to be at least $100 million.

To say we, as a neighborhood, was surprised would be an understatement. We didn’t have a clue about this, and construction was supposed to start 5 months from then. A lot of the adults rushed towards the Ward People’s Committee to start questioning the potential impact this museum may have on the neighborhood, and why they weren’t informed of this decision sooner. That’s the extent of my knowledge, since I wasn’t there myself. But ever since this news, I have never seen our neighbors be so lively and chatty. Everywhere I go, I see people talking about it.

  • stir the atmosphere: gây xôn xao, khuấy động bầu không khí
  • As such: vì thế, do đó
  • fly under the radar (idiom): không được biết tới trong thời gian dài
  • be designated to V: được chỉ định/ quy định làm gì
  • do not have a clue about sth (idiom): không biết điều gì

Part 3

1. How do you think people will get their news in the future?

I believe that technology will shift the way we receive and distribute news in the future. The majority of people will rely on their Internet-connected devices as their primary source of news and information. Traditional newspapers and television will lose popularity in the future due to the time lag between when something occurs and when readers can read or watch it. Mobile devices will be a powerful means to get news updates because they are updated quickly. Listening to our preferred form of news through devices attached to our ears will become more common, and the type of news we want to hear will be selected by our preferences.

  • shift the way + clause: thay đổi/ chuyển đổi cách gì
  • lose popularity (v): không còn phổ biến
  • form of news (n): hình thức tin tức

2. Do you believe everything you read in the newspapers?

No, it’s hard to put trust in the type of newspapers published for the general population. I read mainstream newspapers with a high level of selectivity and verification. As a result, I avoid reading most of the fabricated and false news that is published in less credible and untrustworthy tabloids. I’m also skeptical of biased and sourceless news items shared on Facebook and Twitter by my friends or their friends.

  • mainstream newspapers (n): báo chính thống
  • fabricated news (n): tin dựng, tin bịa đặt
  • tabloids (n): báo lá cải

3. What do you think of children watching TV, especially news?

I believe that children may learn more from educational, engaging, and creative television programs. But not news. Children benefit from watching television in some aspects because it helps them relax and become more curious. Some TV shows can even help them academically. However, children are just too malleable and gullible. It’s quite easy to traumatize a kid, or even desensitize them towards news content, and cause long term psychological impact on their way of thinking. It’s best until they can develop, or at least when the parents can teach them, critical thinking that we can let them freely watch the news.

IELTS SPEAKING MEDIA TOPIC
