Actually, Vietnamese people, in general, use a lot of imported goods from other countries, and I’m not an exception. For example, I often order clothes from China or Korea because they are cheaper and more fashionable at the same time. Besides, none of my technological devices are made in Vietnam, probably because Vietnamese companies haven’t got the ability to produce such high-tech products. 

It’s really hard to tell because wages cannot represent everything. If I am offered a well-paid job in an unstable society like the Middle East or the US, I will definitely turn it down. But if there’s a high-paying job in such peaceful countries as Switzerland or Finland, I’ll give it some thought.

Based on the particular situation, I might choose either one or the other. If it’s for daily consumption, I will lean towards local food because it is more affordable and more balanced in terms of nutrition, I guess. But if I were gonna throw a special party, like on anniversaries, I would opt for Western or Korean delicacies for a change. 

There are so many benefits globalization has brought to Vietnam that it’s hard to single out the most significant one. But if I had to choose, I’d go with the improvements in the Vietnamese’s standard of living, especially in urban areas. Let’s take Ha Noi as an example. If you go around the city, you can see countless buildings and constructions that belong to foreign investors. There are Lotte Tower and Lotte Mart by the Koreans, AEON Malls by the Japanese or the elevated railway by the Chinese, to name but a few. If those projects hadn’t been carried out, not only would the citizens feel less comfortable but the economy as a whole would also not be like how it is today.

I’ve got mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, if we’re talking about changes in terms of well-being, I think there’s no doubt that globalization is a positive thing. As different parts of the world are connected to each other, any technological advancement can be easily shared so that everyone has a better life. On the other hand, some ethnic minorities will be likely to lose their traditions and customs if they are overly exposed to influential cultures like America or Korea.
