Ứng dụng Grammar vào Speaking – Unit 16: Health and Fitness (Ngữ pháp: Pronoun use)

I. Luyện nói Part 1

1. Do you have any unhealthy habits?

Các bạn hãy sử dụng các từ vựng gợi ý để trả lời các câu hỏi dưới đây trước nhé!

Từ vựng gợi ý:

to be addicted to sth: nghiện cái gì

sugary drinks: đồ uống ngọt

do no good to sth: không có lợi với cái gì

a night owl: cú đêm

surf the Internet: lướt mạng

harmful (adj): có hại

Honestly yes. I’m quite addicted to milk tea, though I know that such sugary drinks do no good to my health. I also consider myself a night owl because I often stay up late, surfing the Internet. I read somewhere that the light from my phone is harmful to my eyes, but I just can’t sleep without watching something in bed.

2. In what ways do you try to stay healthy?

Từ vựng gợi ý:

join a gym: đăng ký tập gym

do physical exercises: tập thể dục

eat a balanced diet: ăn theo chế độ ăn cân đối

fat (n): chất béo

I joined a gym near my house last month, and I often spend around 1 hour every other day doing physical exercises there. On top of that, I’m trying to improve my health by eating a balanced diet with less fat and sugar, and more fruits and vegetables.

3. Do you think more about your health now than when you were younger?

Từ vựng gợi ý:

when I was a kid: khi tôi còn nhỏ

not aware of sth: không ý thức được

importance of good health: tầm quan trọng của sức khỏe tốt

(mom) concerned about sth: lo lắng

leave it to sb: để cho ai đó lo

move out: dọn ra ngoài (ở riêng)

be responsible for sth: chịu trách nhiệm

staying away from sth: tránh xa

junk food: thức ăn không lành mạnh

working out: tập thể dục

on a regular basis: thường xuyên

Definitely. When I was a kid, I was not aware of the importance of good health. You know, I never thought much about keeping fit. It was my mom then who was always concerned about my health, even more than hers, so I just left it to her. But now, as I’ve moved out to live alone, I have to be responsible for my own health by, for example, staying away from junk food or working out on a regular basis

II. Luyện nói part 3

1. What can the government do to promote a healthy lifestyle among the citizens?

Từ vựng gợi ý:

impose taxes: áp thuế

unhealthy food and beverages: đồ ăn và thức uống không lành mạnh

discourage sb from doing sth: can ngăn ai không làm gì

purchase (v): mua

invest (v): đầu tư

public parks: công viên công cộng

sports facilities: cơ sở vật chất thể thao

encourage (v): khuyến khích

work out: tập thể dục

For starters, the government can impose taxes on unhealthy food and beverages, which are now preferred by a large number of people, to discourage them from purchasing those products. They can also invest in public parks and sports facilities to encourage their citizens to do exercises more frequently. That said, it all depends on individuals whether they want to work out or not.

2. Would you say modern technology has more of a positive or a negative influence on people’s health?

Từ vựng gợi ý:

harmful effect: ảnh hưởng có hại

to be addicted to sth: nghiện cái gì

technological device: thiết bị công nghệ

health issue: vấn đề về sức khỏe

eye strain: mỏi mắt

back pain: đau lưng

sleeping difficulties: khó ngủ

trivial (adj): nhỏ bé, không đáng kể

huge benefit: lợi ích to lớn

healthcare (n): y tế

medical device: thiết bị y tế

x-ray machine: máy chụp X quang

If we’re talking about stuff like computers or mobile phones, I guess they do have many harmful effects on the health of users. In fact, these days a large number of people are addicted to such technological devices, which causes them many health issues like eye strain, back pain or sleeping difficulties. However, these problems seem to be trivial compared to the huge benefits that technology has brought to healthcare. I’m talking about medical devices such as x-ray machines, which let doctors know what’s going wrong inside patients’ bodies and so give them effective treatments.
