I wouldn’t say that Indian food is completely novel among Vietnamese. However, in the small province where I live, it was not until recently that the first Indian restaurant came into town. Needless to say, the moment I heard about its opening, I rushed to the place to see what they had to offer. My first impression of the restaurant was that it was quite spacious, and I’ve got to admit that the owners had done a good job replicating the Indian atmosphere with all the decorations and furniture. The Indian background music really added to the immersive experience. As for the food, I ordered around 3-4 dishes at the recommendation of the waiter, all of which looked appealing and gave off the signature aroma of Indian spices. While the naan – an Indian staple – and the soup were decent, the Indian curry with butter chicken stole the show. A divine combination of tender and well-seasoned chicken bathed in a spicy yet creamy sauce and Jasmine rice splendidly put together is the perfect recipe for this scrumptious dish. Just speaking about it makes my mouth water. I later learnt from the waiter that the original Indian recipe for this dish had been adapted to suit the taste of Vietnamese customers, which I thought was a smart move.
